Year 5 Blog

Week beginning 31.08.26
Dear parents and carers,
Welcome Back to Year 5!
What a fantastic start we have had to the new school term! Although we have only had two days together so far, we have already been busy learning, exploring and getting to know one another.
It has been lovely to welcome the children into Year 5 and begin building our new class community. We have enjoyed getting to know everyone, learning about their interests and settling into our new routines. The children have made a brilliant start and we are already looking forward to all the exciting learning ahead.
We have begun our new Science topic – Forces. Our first lesson focused on friction. We explored what friction is and thought about how it can affect the movement of objects. The children enjoyed investigating and discussing examples of friction in everyday life.
In Art, we have started learning about the artist Ellsworth Kelly. We have been looking closely at his artwork and thinking about how artists use lines and shapes in different ways.
The children then took inspiration from nature and created their own line drawings, carefully observing the world around them. We have already seen some fantastic ideas and can't wait to develop these further as our art unit continues.
Each child has been given a reading book and reading record to support their reading. The children have had the choice about whether they would like to take these home, although we have encouraged them to do so and make reading part of their regular routine.
If children do take their reading book and record home, both should be brought into school every day, so that we can support and keep track of their reading.
Next week, we will be getting stuck into our main curriculum topics. We will begin our new English, Guided Reading and Maths units, alongside continuing our Science and Art learning.
It has been a wonderful first couple of days, and we are so proud of the positive attitude the children have shown. We are excited to see what the rest of the term brings!
Well done, Year 5 – you have made a fantastic start!
