Round up of the week

English

We have centred our week on our sentences and how we can improve them (ie through adding adjectives, adverbs, fronted adverbials, similes to form complex sentences, uplevelling our language)

We have also looked at the reading skills of retrieval, inference and prediction.

Maths

We have been revisiting place value and learning to understand numbers to 10,000,000. We have reiterated the need to line up numbers according to their decimal place so that numbers are added and subtracted correctly. We have used number lines, bar modelling and partitioning in order to do this. We have also focused on refining our reasoning skills.

Science

The children have loved making parachutes to test air resistance.

Student planners

Please can you sign your child’s planner at the weekend in order that they can hand it in on Monday, signing off that they have completed their homework.

Homework

Each week I will set, on Wednesday the following homework:

• Spellings (through Spelling Shed)
• Mathletics
• Times tables rockstars (to be undertaken twice a week)

These are all computer-based programmes. In the event that a computer is not available at home, I have told the children that they can come in any morning early to complete the work. There is also a lunch time homework club to undertake the work.
