We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 6 Weekly Blog

20.1.23

Good afternoon,

Year 6 have been working hard again this week. We have been thinking lots about how we can go a step further with our learning and challenge ourselves. You may already know that we award Dojo points and house points when the children demonstrate any of our school learning values. We have now added a new Dojo award for when children are challenged or when they challenge themselves.  This is worth two points.

In Maths, we have been continuing our unit on fractions, decimals and percentages. The children have been converting from fractions to decimals by using the short division method. We have also been finding fractions and percentages of amounts. There have been some great problems that the children have had to apply these skills to.  We will continue with this work next week.

In English, the children have been writing contrasting letters in role as Lenny, the main character from the book we have been studying. We have been really impressed with these, and they have worked hard today to edit and improve their writing.  Next week we will be moving on to a new book to study.  Our 'class reader' at the moment is 'Letters from the Lighthouse' and we are really enjoying reading this book as a class whenever we can.

In History, the children are really engaged in their topic on the Battle of Britain. In Science, the children are loving exploring different evidence linked to evolution.

We are looking forward to the Pantomime next week at the village hall!

We hope you all have a lovely weekend.
