We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 6 Weekly Blog Post

10.3.23

Hello everyone,

Year 6 were lucky enough to be part of a live Zoom call with an author called Robert Muchamore who has written a number of series aimed at children who are in Year 6. The children heard about why Robert became an author, some of his challenges on his journey to being an author and the inspiration behind some of his books. He has a new series of books out, based on the legend of Robin Hood. We will be ordering some of these books to join our reading corner soon.

Following on from this, throughout the year we have been working really hard to promote the benefits of 'reading for pleasure'. Each table group has a designated day when they can read in our comfy reading corner, we all go down to the library each week to spend some time enjoying the books in there, and we enjoy listening to our daily class book where an adult reads this to us. The children should be bringing a reading book home from school, including library books and reading scheme books. We remind them of this regularly, but we ask that you also remind them to be bringing these home and reading them.

In maths, we have been working on converting measures, for example converting grams into kilograms and converting millimetres to centimetres as well as metres and kilometres.  The children have also had to convert between metric and imperial measures, including converting between miles and kilometres. This has been a challenge but they have worked really hard!

In English, we have continued to study the book Wolf Brother. The children wrote some fantastic internal monologues at the beginning of the week, writing in role as Torak, the main character. They have now started to write a narrative recount, and will continue with this next week. In Guided Reading, we have been reading a classic text called 'The Wolves of Willoughby Chase'.

We hope you all have a great weekend.
