Personal Development Learning (PDL) encompasses Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education, Citizenship, and Relationships and Sex Education (RSE).

At Brockenhurst, we deliver PDL through the Jigsaw programme, a mindful and child-centred approach that brings together all aspects of personal, social, health and wellbeing education. Jigsaw helps children develop emotional literacy, social skills, resilience and confidence through age-appropriate learning, enabling them to lead safe, happy and healthy lives.

Each year, pupils explore six key themes:

• Being Me
• Celebrating Differences
• Dreams and Goals
• Healthy Me
• Relationships
• Changing Me

These units cover a wide range of topics, including understanding how to look after themselves, recognising what makes each person unique, exploring similarities and differences between families, building and maintaining positive friendships, and preparing for future changes and challenges.

We also teach children about personal safety through the NSPCC's PANTS rule, helping them understand that their body belongs to them, recognise safe and unsafe situations, and know how to seek help from trusted adults if they ever feel worried or uncomfortable.
