As the Vicar of Brockenhurst I have the privilege and joy of being an ex-officio Foundation Governor for Brockenhurst Primary School. Formally, this means that I work to maintain and support the Christian character and values of the school by attending Governor Meetings, carrying out school visits, meeting with the Head, taking corporate worship both at the school and at the church, going on residential trips and just generally being a resource to the school where and when wanted. Informally, it means making the time to get to know better our wonderful children and staff and the wider school community, as well as praying for them on a regular basis and being a supportive link with the rest of our community. It’s a role I love!
Hi, I’m Mel and I am the Children and Families’ Worker for St Saviour’s Church. Part of my role is to be a bridge between church, school, and home, helping children and families feel supported and connected.
In school, I lead worship and help pupils explore the Bible in creative and fun ways. I also support and encourage a group of Worship Ambassadors to take part in child-led worship and prayer activities. Last year, through a partnership with Christian Aid’s Creative for Climate Justice project, one of our pupils was invited to speak to MPs at a special exhibition of child-created artwork on the theme of Climate Justice. You might also see me around school supporting projects such as intergenerational storytelling, celebrating Christian festivals, or joining in with special events.
Outside of school, I run groups and activities where children and families can have fun, make friends, and discover more about faith together. Everything I do is about creating spaces where people feel valued, welcomed, and able to grow. I love my work and have a heart for building relationships within the community – so do come and say hello if you see me!
