We Enjoy and Excel in the Presence of God

Year 2

Friday 5th January 2024

Happy New Year and welcome back to school!

It has been such a lovely first week back with all the Penguins returning enthusiastic to learn!

We started the week by writing our goals for 2024 and have also begun exploring our first book of the term called Tidy! In maths we have been counting coins and notes; I know we hardly use money these days but if you did  have the opportunity to practice using money at home it would really help the children’s learning - thank you! In PE we have started our dance unit and in geography we have started our unit comparing Brockenhurst to Kampong Ayer with the children creating their own passports!

A few admin bits and bobs:

Please could PE kits be in school every day (PE days are Monday and Wednesday).

Reading books are changed on a Monday and Thursday, however, please could these come into school every day. Please could you also read with your child as much as possible at home and make sure their reading records are signed by an adult - thank you!

Homework is set every Monday on EdShed and is due in the following Monday.

Year 2 – Forest School Information

This term Year 2 will be taking part in Forest School with Miss Welton. This will take place every Tuesday afternoon. To ensure all children have the best experience, the class will be split into two groups. Group 1 will have their 6 sessions during Spring 1. Group 2 will then begin their sessions after February half term.

Going forwards, please can they bring in a pair of wellie boots, a waterproof coat, hat etc. If you have waterproof trousers, then these can be used as well.  Alternatively, you may wish to send your child in with a pair of old jogging bottoms or trousers. We will be going outside in all weathers and they will get muddy! They may benefit from a pair of gloves and hat, depending on the weather. If you have any queries or concerns, please send me an email or contact the office. Thank you!

And finally thank you so so much for my unbelievably kind and thoughtful Christmas presents. They were completely unexpected and such a lovely surprise to return to school and find. Mrs Cooper, Mrs Burch and Mrs Langton have also asked me to pass on their thanks for their Christmas presents too - they are really appreciated.

If you got have any questions feel free to drop me an email or catch me at the end of the day. Have a lovely weekend and we will see you next week!
